MIAMI -- Andy Roddick says he'll likely be unable to accept Dwyane Wade's offer to play H-O-R-S-E.
The Miami Heat announced that Wade would play Roddick and fellow tennis pro Mardy Fish on the team's practice court following Sunday's workout. But a few hours later, Roddick said his next match in the Sony Ericsson Open will be the same day, likely preventing him from taking on Wade.
"I'm kind of mad," Roddick said after winning his opening match Friday night. "He's like my favorite athlete. So I'm just going to have to pull out -- of the tournament."
Roddick was joking: He's certain to show for his next match against Dmitry Tursunov.
Double Handled Racquets

The racquet has two handles positioned at a right-angle to the head, allowing players to play two-handed open-stance forehand shots from both sides.
Its use is being permitted but it has raised eyebrows in the traditional sport.
Two American brothers, Dann and Brian Battistone, play with the innovative creations in competition.
The racquet can be found for sale in the racquet section under the subtitle NATURAL TENNIS RACQUETS. TennisMogul.com is the only site beside theirs who carries this product and is proud to announce that!
TM

TennisMogul.com is proud to announce stringing machines and youth shoes are now available in their catalog under the Shoes and Clearance sections. Please take the time to look through the catalog and make a purchase. For all you string addicts there are a couple of pretty good deals in there!

Jose Higueras
I read an interview with Jose and he sounds like a coach, a pretty good coach. Nothing too much in the article impressed me but it was decent. The only concern I have is why would the USTA hire a Spaniard to be the Director of Coaching for USTA Player Development. It is the USTA, the UNITED STATES TENNIS ASSOCIATION, doesn't it make sense to hire an AMERICAN COACH.?

Scott...Not!

If we’re to measure Scott’s success by the size of the WTA’s war chest, which by all accounts is overflowing, he is indeed worthy of all the praise coming his way. But when I look back at his six-year tenure, I don’t see the record of a visionary whose decisions were governed by passion for the sport or its fans. Instead, I see an exceptional businessman who too often put cash ahead of credibility...*James Martin Tennis Magazine...This guy wrote this, he is a freakin genius and the top editor for T Mag, Bodo this article puts your papers to shame. This is great stuff. Go to tennis.com to read the whole article. This is why we need to hire insiders to the game.

Hawk Eye Flaw RIDICULIS

Electronic Line-calling Malfunction Costs Ljubicic at Indian Wells Tennis. A replay call during a match between Andy Murray and Ivan Ljubicic on Thursday at the event in Indian Wells brought into question the accuracy of the “Hawkeye” instant video replay line-calling system.
Serving at 5-7, 4-4, ad out, Ljubicic apparently won the point when Murray’s high lob landed wide near the net. Murray then signaled to use one of his replay challenges, which digitally showed the ball landing in the middle of the line. The actual review showed the ball landing well wide. Upon a second look, it appeared the replay system acknowledged the second bounce when the high lob originally bounced wide, but the second bounce landed on the line. After losing the replay point, Ljubicic lost the next point to lose his serve, walking to his chair for the changeover while the Indian Wells crowd booed the electronic line call. Ljubicic had argued to no avail with the chair umpire that the make the electronic line-calling system had made was “ridiculous.”

Trump's most artful deal - a vast tennis club he leases above Grand Central Terminal for a tiny fraction of the going rate - is about to end.
Trump has held the lease with Metro-North for 30 years, paying one-twenty-fifth of the going rate - without a single rent hike.
He pays $4 a square foot, while the average rent in the landmark terminal for restaurants and other retail shops is $99 a square foot, a railroad spokeswoman said.
The space is occupied by a little-known two-court tennis club and lounge where New York's elite - ranging from actors to top tennis pros - pay $170 an hour.
"It's very sad that it's over; it's a great place," Trump said Wednesday night.
"I played there. A lot of stars like Robert Duvall and Dustin Hoffman have played there, but times change," said Trump, whose lease ends Memorial Day.
The elegant club is complete with sauna and has been graced at times by John McEnroe and Serena and Venus Williams.
Its perfectly maintained claylike courts are on the third floor of the terminal near Vanderbilt Ave.
"It was a terrific deal over the years," he said, adding that the space was a "disgusting mess when I took it over and fixed up the club."
Trump's deal began as a 20-year lease. It expired 10 years ago and has been on a month-to-month basis for 10 years as a succession of Metro-North administrations tried to decide what to do with the gorgeous space.
While railroad employees are rejoicing over the prospect of a new rest area, veteran patrons of the tennis courts, called The Tennis Club, are seething.
"I've been playing here for years, and I wish they could have kept it," said Barry Berkman, a lawyer who noted there are no other tennis facilities in the area.

Rock the Cradle

The 67-year-old Williams plans to marry 30-year-old Lakeisha Graham in early April. Williams have been divorced from his former wife and the mother of Venus and Serena, Oracene, for approximately seven years.
This girl is the same age as his daughters, I wonder if they hang out together like friends and chase guys around and she is like...hmmm your dad is hot. I don't think so, have you seen the belly and manboobs on this old timer. This is what happens to old people. If she wants a peice of the money she should just hang with the girls and chase guys. Instead she did the dirty dance with old man will. This is hilarious and has officially stamped and sealed his insanity on the tour. Next up...Maria Sharapova's father. Over or under nine months this will last, you bet.
Hey is that Chip Brooks in the background with the stash from IMG? Goofy looking bastard.

French Chardy

Charles Bricker blogger on www.TENNISNEWS.com is an idiot. Jeremy Chardy is a joke. He smoked fish in a typical ATP tournament in which case Fish gets beat regularly by nobodies or almost nobodies all the time. He plays decent in a major or a masters series event just to maintain a reasonable and respectable ranking always hovering below the greats and above the suckers. These types of players are journeymen and Chardy is not a force and never will be a force in tennis, at least he plays with a good racquet though, love the old faithful head prestige. Bricker thinks Jeremy Chardy...Well, here it is....France's Chardy will become a force in tennis..."Bricker" (jackass)
Time To Retire???

Despite hiring a new coach, dropping 15 lbs and bringing a renewed focus to his game….
Andy Roddick suffered a crushing defeat at the Australian Open.
The American tennis player lost in straight sets to Roger Federer in the semi-finals.
It's been forever since Andy has reached the finals of a major.
Might be time to call it quits!

Tennis News

I must admit I am addicted to tennis in any fashion. I believe I was born to do something great in tennis and I am still working in that direction and being consistent in the tennis industry. Therefore, I am familiar with the media, magazines, sites, shops, and everything you can possibly imagine. I know more about anything tennis related than the average bear. I have been forced to appreciate a new tennis news site and that is www.TENNIS-X.com.

Fish Food

Mardy Fish fired Craig Boynton and hired another USTA coach. Don't take this personally because this is just the straw that is going to break the camels back. SO, let me coach you for just a moment Mardy at no cost to you just this time...Andy Roddick since his US Open win....879879873 coaches and no more Grand Slams or big wins. Roger Federer who you want to be like more than yourself has no coach and his career has flopped. Andy Murray breaks up with Brad Gilbert, still no major wins....The list goes on and on. Here is the point. It is called COMMITMENT. In business and coaching and relationships like "marriage" its all the same. You have to make a COMMITMENT with someone and stick with it which is why you and everyone else in the field can not touch Rafael Nadal and it becomes one less distraction. This guy is committed to his coach, you don't see him firing and hiring and on an ego trip. COMMITMENT is why Pat Mac and the Davis Cup have been successful. Its working things out and lighting that fire under someones ass to make them work harder or the way you want them to instead of giving them the axe. Its working through those tough times that makes you stronger. I know you can't change the past now and let bygones be bygones but please keep this in mind for this coach that you are bringing in. Its commitment that will keep you in the loop of success. Good Luck kid.

Ponte Vedra Beach
I actually got to attend the Bausch and Laumb event that just past and got to sit front row right behind the players for nearly the whole tournament that Russian Maria Sharapova defeated rising star Dominika Cibulkova in the final. It's actually a really cool tournament and since I was sporting a Florida Gator Tennis shirt the ballboys loved it and hooked me up with the players drinks out of their hopper next to their chairs all tournament long and the tournamet host from LA loved chattin with me so much I just gave him the gator shirt off my back. I met a lot of the WTA players and coaches because they would just walk around the tournament grounds like they were just watching the tournament. I got to kick it with Cibulkova, Szavay, and many others and chatted with numerous coaches. I even nearly persuaded Amelie Mauresmo and another American doubles girl to hit with me, Amelie almost took the bait and said, "next time," so I may hold her to that. Amelie's girlfriend was definitely a smokin hot blondie. It was not like the Cincinnati Masters where the players were more protected. It was like when Lincoln just walked around the community without security and anyone could approach him. The gossip around the tournament was that they were going to lose their prestige and not take any players in the top 10 next year because they were going to reduce the prize money from pressure of the WTA and that means only less ranked players would be playing in the tournament. In laymens terms, the tournament was going to be lame next year and this was the last good year to go.An added twist hit the media recently and the Sawgrass Club in Ponte Vedra Beach is vying for the event. It would be a minor shame because the centre court at Amelia is one of the most beautiful sites and courts I have ever been to with a giant tree partially covering the stands and the court with the sun rising from the far side of the court early in the day. It was an incredibly great aesthitic view with great value. The tournament has been played in Amelia since 1980. The catch is to find a new sponsor to cough up at least 700,000 a year and sign at least a 3 year contract, which is what Bausch and Laumb was under for the past 22 years. This is not definite yet and I am sure Amelia will fight and hustle to keep the tourney but the word is out and PVB (Ponte Vedra Beach) is trying to make it happen and probably will.
Well it is definite now, and the tournament will be played in Ponte Vedra Beach also known as PV to the locals (that is where my family resides). It will be great for PV, especially since the ATP is located there in the Americas. It will be like the TPC hopefully someday...The TPC is known as the fifth major in golf, maybe it will be the fifth major in tennis too...only time will tell. Gilbert, why dont you just work for the ATP instead?

scuttle butt & Brad-enton

Image of Andy Ireland with gay paw and Brad Gilbert. High profile Brad Gilbert is making his way to the west coast of FLA form his cozy home base in California. Guess you can call the unemployment agency and let them know you found a job. This should be interesting, since talent is thinning on the American front hopefully he can work with the American kids, there are so many foreigners at the academy its ridiculis. He may be the only other American coach besides Nick. I wonder what he is getting paid? Do you think he filled out an application with IMG? 47 is kind of old, I bet i could whoop him on the court. Has anyone told him to clean up that white patch on the side of his head and not to wear suit jackets in the Australian heat with pink whacky shirts. This guy was a fashion disaster for two weeks. Hey Brad, always wearing black is a little creepy too, get original because it reminds me of night matches with Andy Roddick at the US Open. Does IMG have their guy??? Anyways, I absolutely can't stand Bob Larson and his site, but please read the following...
March 9, 2009 - Brad Gilbert to guest coach at Bollettieri Academy
Five months after quitting his lucrative job with the Lawn Tennis Association in the UK, Brad Gilbert is back in coaching – this time with Nick Bollettieri at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fl.
Because Gilbert is a very high-energy, very Type A personality, you knew he couldn’t stay on the sidelines much longer, though it’s not clear how long this gig with Nick is going to last. It’s open-ended right now.
"Brad will come down here for two weeks and we’ll see how things go," Bollettieri told me this afternoon. There’s no exact date set for Gilbert’s arrival, but it’s supposed to coincide with students’ spring break. "I’ll be seeing Brad in about a month," Bollettieri said.
"Let me make this very clear. He is going to bring his knowledge here to work with every group at this academy." That means juniors who have already shown the talent to have a pro career; juniors whose best next move is college and then, possibly, a pro career; and club players who are spending several days to a week at the academy trying to bump their USTA ratings from 3.5 to 4.0, or higher.
"What Brad brings is a formula of how to fight, how to dig in and make the maximum out of what you’ve got," said Bollettieri. "He’s going to bring how to win . . . h ow to get into people’s minds . . . how to play with what you’ve got."
At 47, Gilbert has already established himself as an in-demand coach and I asked him on this conference call from his home just north of San Francisco what he would do if, during his time at the IMG Academy, he got a phone call from yet another top-10 player looking to contract for his services. Nick stepped in and joked: "Plead the 5th on that one, Brad."
The answer is obvious. He’s going to be back on tour if the right opportunity presents itself. It’s in his blood, and Bollettieri understands that. He also understands that there are a number of very high-profile young pros at the academy who have the opportunity to be personally exposed to Gilbert during these (expected) series of two-week coaching stints. That would include one of the most intriguing young players on the ATP Tour today, 19-year-old Kei Nishikori.
Nishikori (currently No. 94 after reaching No. 56 in February), it should be noted, is currently working with Bollettieri traveling coach Glenn Weiner. Could Nishikori be working with Gilbert in the future? That’s not why Gilbert is coming to Florida, but, as anyone who has ever coached tennis will tell you, "These relationships are not forever."
Certainly Gilbert knows that after coaching and be fired by Andre Agassi (1994-2002), Andy Roddick (2003-04) and Andy Murray.
But wherever Gilbe rt has gone, he’s improved an already immensely talented player into a better player. He supplemented Agassi’s physical gift for the game with the mental processes that were lacking and was with Andre for six Grand Slam singles titles. He was coaching Roddick when Andy won his only Slam.
Maybe there are better stroke technicians than Gilbert out there, but few coaches are better at instructing players how to properly use what they’ve got.
That finesse and the mental game was what Gilbert used to finish nine of his 10 pro seasons in the ATP top 10, reaching No. 4 in 1990. It carried him to a career best Slam quarterfinal finish at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and won him 20 singles titles.
He’s written two books (Winning Ugly and I’ve Got Your Back) and probably made an obscene amount of money working 16 months for the LTA, which couldn’t have been very satisfying after Murray split with him. He was left to squire Alex Bogdanovic, Britain’s No. 2 player, to a series of Challengers.
"I’m looking forward to the opportunity to spend a couple weeks with Nick," said Brad, who himself was at this academy, as was his son, Zack, two years ago.
Said Nick: "We’re going back to the old times when Brad was here (as a student)," said Nick. "I assure you Brad has always been a favorite of mine because of how he knew how to fight and win. Right now we’ll start with two weeks and see how it goes. But when we need Brad here, he’ll be here."
Chicken Soup for the Soul
Ladies, here’s a hint. If you’re up against a girl with big b/o/o/bs, bring her to the net and make her hit backhand volleys. That’s the hardest shot for the well-endowed.Billie Jean KingFriday, March 6, 2009
USTA Player Ratings

General Characteristics of Various NTRP Playing Levels
To place yourself:
A. Begin with 1.5. Read all categories carefully and then decide which one best describes your present ability level. Be certain that you qualify on all points of all preceding levels as well as those in the level you choose.
B. When rating yourself assume you are playing against a player of the same gender and the same ability.
General Characteristics of Various NTRP Playing Levels
(Wheelchair players please see note below)
1.5
You have limited experience and are working primarily on getting the ball in play.
2.0
You lack court experience and your strokes need developing. You are familiar with the basic positions for singles and doubles play.
2.5
You are learning to judge where the ball is going, although your court coverage is limited. You can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

4.0
You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots. You can use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success and occasionally force errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident.
4.5
You have developed your use of power and spin and can handle pace. You have sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and attempt to vary game plan according to your opponents. You have mastered power and/or consistency as a major weapon. You can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hit dependable shots in a stress situation.
6.0 to 7.0
You have had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and have obtained a sectional and/or national ranking.
7.0
You are a world-class player.
