Jerry Jay Chicone III tragically passed away yesterday morning around 7am. The cause of death is unknown and an autopsy will take place. Jay Chicone was found by his cleaning lady approximately at 11 am. Services will be held in Winter Garden (Orlando) Saturday morning. Jay graduated from Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, FL in 1979 and the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1983. Jay was a lifelong Gainesville / Orlando Florida resident with deep roots throughout the communities and was a tennis supporter. He was a patron to Shands Hospital for many many years committing to more community service hours than anyone I have ever met. Jay single handedly built and maintained all of the Shands gardens, landscaping, and workout rooms and much more. Jay was a fixture in the Gainesville community for the past five years acting as a mentor and pillar to many others. Jay always offered a helping hand when no one else would and literally fed much of the community with his food and unconditional love. Jay was always willing to take you in, cook you an incredible steak, and entertain and host his home to any who needed it. Jay supported many people who were unable to be employed and would employ them and would make you a part of his family and gave everything he had all the time. Jay unfortunately fell into some bad habits over the past year and that is when his health came to fail him. He was a great friend to me personally and publicly and helped many others out in trying times. He will be missed and in our hearts forever and has moved on to a better place where he is at peace.
